For the past couple of weeks We have been learning about Tangata Whenua. We watched a video about new zealand , how New Zealand was found and things like that.
Here are some facts that I learnt about Tangata Whenua.
1. 5000 years ago people used wakas to travel
2. Aotearoa is named after A long white cloud
3. New Zealand was Discovered by kupe and his wife
4. 12-25 waka Arrived in Aotearoa
5. The poeple that found Aotearoa could'nt return to there country because of the strong winds .
6. New Zealand was the Final country to be found by polynes.
7. They brought dogs and rats with them to New Zealand
8. The Maori choose to settle in New Zealand so they could protect it
9. The people didn't know that Moa were VERY precious

ReplyDeleteIt wasn't 5000 years ago though! It was sometime between 1200-1300 so about 800 years ago.
